Call for Workshops & Tutorials

We invite proposals for interesting and innovative sessions that will ensure that XP2010 conference offers value for everyone's level of participation.
Workshops and Tutorials provide in-depth exploration of a particular topic.  We look for sessions on topics such as:

  • Techniques for software design, requirements, programming, prototyping, testing, UI design, team handling, agile adoption, project steering, or others.
  • Tools important to agile software development: test automation, estimation, metrics, test exploration, or others.
  • Tools and Techniques for agile team coordination, communication, and collaboration, among team members, between the team and customers, between multiple teams, between projects and organizations
  • Techniques for social and work environment needs relating to agile methods
  • Impact of agile methods in software development, information technology, information systems and information management

WORKSHOPS

Workshops are in-depth interactive, experiential presentations by 1-2 workshop leaders with either: a) structured experiential training on the topic, or b) in-depth discussion and problem-solving among the workshop participants.
Workshops provide a valuable learning experience for both the organizer and the participants. They encourage interaction between presenters and participants and among participants. Workshops focus on discussion and practice, rather than lecture-format presentation. Workshops may be oriented toward academics or practitioners, programmers or managers, experienced agile practitioners or beginners.
Workshop organizers/presenters may choose to control the process of participant enrollment, including setting limits on the number of participants and/or setting criteria for participation in the workshop, e.g. submitting a position paper in advance.
Workshops are either 90- or 180 minutes in duration.
This call for participation is for workshop organizers only: a later call for workshop attendees will be managed by the organizers of each accepted workshop.

TUTORIALS

Tutorials are more broadly defined, usually have only a single speaker, include more expert lecture formats, and reflect a deep knowledge of a particular topic area across several instances of use (unlike an experience report which may describe deep experience in one instance).  Tutorials provide clear utility to practitioners and may introduce a new broad knowledge area or focus on new explication that takes narrow topics deeper or into new territory.

Tutorials tend toward one-way communication from speaker to participant, unlike the interactive, participatory, mutual exploration nature of workshops. Tutorials may be oriented toward academics or practitioners, programmers or managers, experienced agile practitioners or beginners.

Tutorials are open to all participants and may have large audiences.

Tutorials are 90 minutes in duration.
