PhD Symposium

The goal of the symposium is to provide an opportunity for PhD students to get feedback on their research and to get insights into other students' research. The students will also get the opportunity to build a netwok of other students in he same research field and with leading researchers in the world.
Since research on agile methods are well suited for case study research the focus will be on this type of studies. Both quantitative case studies and qualitative case studies are welcome.

Submission

Submissions should be maximum 2 pages in the conference paper format, including all references and figures.

Submissions should describe an important study of the student, where the focus is more on the planning parts than on the parts that possibly already have been carried out. At least the following items should be presented:

  • Objective? What to achieve?
  • The case? What is studied?
  • Theory? Frame of reference
  • Research questions? What to know?
  • Methods? How to collect data?
  • Selection strategy? Where to seek data?
  • Outline of data analysis procedures? How will the collected data be analysed?

These items are further presented in Per Runeson, Martin Höst, "Guidelines for Conducting and Reporting Case Study Research in Software Engineering", Empirical Software Engineering, Vol. 14, Issue 2, pp. 131-164, 2009 10.1007/s10664-008-9102-8

Submissions will be reviewed by the organizers. Acceptance will be based on quality of the proposal and relevance to the symposium theme.

The symposium

The doctoral symposium will include a short tutorial on case study research methodology, and after that students will present their papers.

All attendances will, prior to the symposium, receive two accepted papers, other than their own, together with reading guidelines in order to provide additional feedback to the presenter.
